     Died from gunshot wound, caused by accidental discharge of a revolver he was cleaning. He thought he had extracted all cartridges, but there was one remaining which exploded as he was cleaning the trigger-guard. The bullet struck him in the left breast (narrowly missing his heart) and passed out through the spine.
     The accident probably occurred on 12 or 13 Nov 1894, and he died in hospital on 14 Nov 1894.
     Reports of the accident were published on 14 Nov 1894 in National Advocate and on 30 Nov 1894 in Albury Banner. Death notices were published on 15 Nov 1894 in Goulburn Penny Post, on 20 Nov 1894 in Australian Star, Daily Telegraph and Sydney Morning Herald, and on 24 Nov 1894 in Sydney Mail, with similar wording:
