(Sister-il of Bride) Marriage | 12 Sep 1913 | Henry W. (Harry) Scott, Eliza Amelia (Nell) Harris; 'Wermatong', Tumut, NSW; > Extract from Stacy 'Hamlyn Lavicount Harris of Wermatong, N.S.W.': Nell was married just after Father had suffered a period of more than usual pain and he was not able to go to Tumut; so the woolshed was converted into a Church with a little sanctuary at the south end and the "board" became the refreshment hall. Clem [Nell's younger brother] was mainly responsible for the decoration. The rafters were covered with gum blossoms; the walls with yellow muslin and bracken ferns; the corner reserved for the reception was embowered with wattle; and the long refreshment table was decorated with daffodils and violets. In the sanctuary a table placed altar-wise held brass shellcases filled with almond blossoms and two lights were necessary, for the shed was rather too "dim-religiously" lighted. The ceremony was performed by the Rev. Canon Ross-Edwards. Father was present in his wheel-chair, and about seventy guests were seated. Vida [Nell's older sister] was the only maid, in honey-coloured silk and chiffon with a posy of primroses. The bride's dress was of ivory satin and lace with wreath and veil and she looked very graceful. Brother Tom was Harry's best man. I think Noel represented Father and gave the bride away. Myra and I played the Wedding March on the piano. It was a happy homely wedding8,9,10 |

Death | 29 Oct 1950 | Tumut and District Hospital, Tumut, NSW; > HARRIS Myra Beatrice Death notice 29OCT1950 Death at Tumut Sydney Morning Herald 02NOV1950 Obituary in Tumut and Adelong Times, 31 Oct 1950, page 2: MRS. MYRA B. HARRIS After being a patient in Tumut and District Hospital for the past six weeks, Mrs. Myra Beatrice Harris, wife of Colonel Geoff. Harris, of "Dardanella," Tumut, passed away at 9.10 p.m. on Sunday. Born in Tumut 68 years ago, the late Mrs. Harris was a daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. N. Emmanuel, her father being well-known local solicitor. On reaching woman's estate she married Mr. Geoff Harris, then conducting a farming property at "Wermatong", Tumut. With the exception of a short period of residence at Goulburn where Col. Harris was in command of an Army regiment after the 1st war, the late Mrs. Har ris resided in Tumut and district all her life. She took a keen interest in Tumut C.W.A. and Red Cross Society activities, being treasurer of the former organisation for a number of years. In early life she showed considerable talent in painting. Besides the sorrowing husband, one son Frederick, of Lacmalac, is left to mourn the loss of a devoted wife and mother. Two brothers, Percy (Brisbane) and Fred Emmanuel (Sydney) and one sister Doris (Mrs. George Cohen, Rose Bay) also survive. One brother Norman and one sister Truda predeceased her. The funeral takes place today, leaving from All Saints' Church of England at 3 o'clock for the Tumut New Cemetery. 14 |
