Parents and 5 children. The family's first property in Mildura.
'[while living in Glasgow] Papa used to go to London quite often in connection with business and when there he visited the Chaffey Bros office and evidently was carried away with the idea of migrating to Mildura, which was being widely advertised by a large "Red Book" which they had published. He apparently persuaded two others [Agnes Proudfoot's brother WM Plant, and her sister, married to WC Gordon] to join him and the three of them bought three blocks of land ... The arrangement was that they should be planted with fruit trees or vines and that the owners should wait two years before they took their way out to Mildura. The three families arrived as arranged to find that the land had only been planted with the trees about a week or so before we arrived ... The Gordons only stayed in Mildura long enough to book a passage home again to England; he was so disgusted with the way things had turned out. The land which had been allocated to the three families was no good.'4
