Report in Sydney Morning Herald 11 Jan 1930 p16:
     MOTOR ACCIDENTS: FATALITY NEAR TUMUT.
A fatal motor accident occurred yesterday [9 Jan 1930] three miles from Tumut, on the Adelong-road, at a spot known as Korn's Corner. A car owned and driven by Mr. Noel Harris, aged 51, grazier, of Oxley, Gilmore, near Tumut, capsized, due to a front tyre being torn off when taking a turn in the road. The vehicle struck a low stump. Thane Scott, aged 12, a nephew of Mr Harris, and son of Mr Harry Scott, manager of the Commercial Bank at The Rock, suffered a fractured skull, and died in a private hospital without regaining consciousness.
Mr Harris is suffering internal and back injuries, and his son, Leslie Harris, aged 12, sustained an injured shoulder. Thane Scott, who was visiting his uncle for the holidays, was suffering from a previously broken arm, and was returning from Tumut to Gilmore after having had the fractured limb dressed by a doctor.
Extract from book by Flo Stacy Harris of Wermatong, page 88:
... once good fortune forsook us, and left Harry and Nell Scott bereft of a fine young man name Thane. No one was to blame. It was a simple car-skid on loose gravel, but it happened in a place where no car could afford to skid. As a tribute to Nell's character I must add that when her first burst of grief subsided she asked to be taken to the hospital where the driver of the car lay in a state of shock. "I want to tell him I don't blame him," she said.5,6,7

Report in Tumut and Adelong Times, 21 Jan 1930, page 1:
FREDERICK THANE SCOTT'S DEATH: CORONER'S INQUEST
On Thursday last Coroner R. L. Blakeney conducted an inquiry into the death of Frederick Thane Scott, victim of the recent car accident. Following evidence was taken : —
William Harry Piper, dairy farmer, Adelong Road, 3 miles from Tumut, deposed: At about 1.30 p.m. on 9th inst. heard a car as it passed the house, and almost immediately heard two loud noises coming from same direction. Went out to the road and noticed that an accident had occurred close to the house. Proceeded to the spot and on the roadway saw an overturned motor car and noticed a man and two boys lying on the road close to the car. They were all unconscious and appeared to be badly injured. No other people were present when I arrived at the scene of the accident. There was no other vehicle about nor any in sight. Then left my wife and Miss Rivers to attend to the injured and went to Mr. McGillivray's, almost three quarters of a mile away to ring up doctor and police. Shortly after Dr. Browne and Sergt. Jones arrived on the scene and the injured were conveyed to a private hospital in Tumut. In front of my place there is a bend in the road. By the tracks of a car when taking the turn, it appeared to me as if the car was partially out of control. At the foot of the gully, about 50 yards from the turn in the road the car overturned. The tyre on the off hind wheel had been blown out and the tube was showing.
Alexander H. C. Jones, Sergt. of Police at Tumut, deposed: On 9th inst., at about 1.30 p.m., received a telephone communication to the effect that a serious motor accident had occurred on Adelong Road about 3 miles from Tumut. Proceeded in a motorcycle immediately and on arrival found that a serious motor car accident had occurred. Found near Piper's house a car overturned in a gully on roadside. Saw a man and two boys lying on roadside in an unconscious condition all very much injured. A number of other people were present. Recognised injured man as Mr. Noel Harris, of Gilmore. Shortly after Dr. Browne arrived and the injured persons were placed in cars and taken to a private hospital in Tumut. When I arrived on the scene noticed that Frederick Thane Scott was very severely injured, having an extensive wound at top of head. He was deeply unconscious. There was a quantity of blood on a pillow on which he was lying. Almost 50 yards on the roadway toward Tumut from where the car overturned there is a bend in the road. Noticed that a car had swerved off the running road and from then on tracks of the car suggested that the driver had practically lost control. Tracks then went on to some timber which protrudes about 4 feet from roadway. The wheels of the car collided with this timber, which collision caused the vehicle to capsize, in conjunction with a blowout which had taken place in the off back wheel. Mr. Harris is a reputable man, a property owner and a careful driver, and there would appear to be no negligence on his part.
Dr. C. S. Browne deposed: About 2 p.m. on Thursday. 9th January, in response to a telephone call proceeded to scene of a car accident about 3 miles from Tumut on Adelong Road. Alongside the road found three injured persons. Under instructions they were conveyed to Sefton private hospital in Richmond Street. There a detailed examination was made. The boy Thane Scott was deeply unconscious from the onset. He had a very large scalp wound, almost 10ins. in length extending from the right frontal region backwards and downwards towards the occipital region. The bone of the skull underlying the wound was bare and exposed; the whole wound was full of road dust extending from the vertex down to the temporal region was a long fissured fracture which was traced downwards and found to disappear ultimately toward the base of the skull. The wound was thoroughly cleansed under anaesthesia and tetanus anti toxin injected. His condition became rapidly worse, and he died shortly after 5 p.m., presenting all the signs of severe intra cranial injury.
Noel Henry Harris deposed: On Thursday last, 9th. inst., left Tumut at 20 past one in the afternoon with the intention of going home. Was driving my own car. About 3 miles from Tumut there is a bend in the road almost in front of Piper's house. Right opposite Piper's gate on the lefthand side the running is rough, and I was crossing out to a little better than the middle of the road. Just then the car skidded in a sand patch and threw the hind part of the car in towards Piper's. To straighten out the car brought the head of the car into same direction, which brought the front wheel on the edge of the new formation of the road. The car went ahead, which brought the hind wheel on the new formation which would not hold, causing a worse skid than the first one. Again straightened the car successfully, which brought the off wheels into the water table. Then realised there was trouble ahead as I could not bring it back on the road, and I knew the existence of a well right in front, also a deep gutter coming out from under the culvert. Also knew from the bumping of the car that the tyre was off one of rear wheels. The time would be about half past one. Was travelling about 25 miles per hour. It was a six cylinder touring car. Do not think the pace had anything to do with the accident. Consider it was caused by the nature of the road and car skidding. Have had a driver's license for about two years. Did not see any other vehicle on road. Would say the accident was not caused by any negligence or carelessness on my part.
The Coroner found that the said Frederick Thane Scott died from the effects of injuries accidentally received on 9th January, 1930, on Adelong road, 3 miles from Tumut, through being thrown out of a motor car which overturned .8
